Spinning, a fitness craze popping up on the East and West Coasts, is making its way to the Corridor.

Burst Cycling Studio, an 1,800-square-foot facility, will open next month at 5300 Fountains Dr. NE, Suite 112 in Cedar Rapids.

The business, owned by Michelle Horak and Stacie Shannon, will offer an introductory class, a non-competitive fitness class, and a more competitive team-building ride.

“Given our passion for cycling and how that’s grown in the last few years, we decided to bring that to Cedar Rapids,” Shannon said.

The studio will house 30 bikes, plus one for the instructor, and gradually build up to accommodate 42 riders. Memberships will not be required and single-class passes can be purchased.

Horak has been participating in spinning classes for several years. Shannon, a Cedar Rapids resident, has been riding indoors at a gym, while taking spinning classes. While she enjoyed the classes, Shannon wanted a facility that provided certified instruction and data from her ride.
